What is SyBerW?

SyBerW is a chemical compound comprised of natural materials, the most active of which are sodium silicate and disodium borate. Wood treated with SyBerW is environmentally safe. Wood treated with SyBerW is water/fire/decay and rot resistant; and it is safe to handle.

What Does It Do To Wood?

SyBerW reacts molecularly with the natural liquids inside of wood (i.e. water; sugar; resin, etc.). This reaction causes these liquids to molecularly change while simultaneously creating a polymer shield within the wood. During the treating process, the elimination of the liquids is quite visible to the naked eye as the chemical is drawn into the wood while pushing the liquids out at the same time. The wood is warm to the touch just after treatment due to the chemical reaction. The result is a dry piece of wood that has superior resistance to water, fire, rot, insects, etc.

Does It Treat Green Wood?

SyBerW works better on green, un-dried wood as there is more moisture with which the chemical reacts. When treating with SyBerW the costly and time consuming steps necessary in the drying of wood, whether through the natural, air dried process or forced, kiln dried procedure is rendered unnecessary.

Does It Treat Dried Wood?

SyBerW works just as well on dried wood as it does on green wood. The term dried wood is a bit of a misnomer as there continues to be a level of natural liquids remaining in the wood. Wood that is “dried,” whether through natural aging or in a kiln, typically retains about 12-18% of its original moisture content. The treatment process using SyBerW requires a little more time when performed on dried wood due to the lower level of liquid within the wood. The treated product is, however, just the same whether the wood was green or dried.

SyBer, SyBerW, and SyBerR have been found effective in many applications. Mold and mildew can not survive in a SyBer environment. Wood treated with SyBerR and SyBerW are highly fire resistant, water cannot penetrate the wood and insects can’t eat the wood.
